Here’s a look at all of the receiving/throwing drills I incorporate into a catching-focused training day. I do this 2-3 days a week outside of regular team practices and in addition to hitting specific days and lifting. We also incorporate blocking and other catching drills in throughout the week.
Clips of a hitting session in December 2023. Getting ready for a few upcoming camps and my high school season!
I’ve been putting in the work this off season and I am so excited for the fall season to kickoff this weekend with my new team!
Here’s a clip from a recent session with my hitting coach.
Here's a look at my softball swing progression from February 2020 until present day. Lots of long hours in the cages, reviewing film, and training sessions with my hitting coach has gone into where I am today. I dedicate time every week towards hitting mechanics and my mental approach in the box to continue to improve.
I expressed an interest in catching in April 2021, but didn't get serious about training until later that summer. I immediately fell in love with the position and had to work hard to quickly develop my skills because I got a late start. I've been to several catching specific camps and spend hours working on the small mechanics that I think make a difference - from my stance, receiving, footwork, strengthening my arm, and game awareness.
I've really started to love strength training the past year. I like the challenge of it - setting goals and being able to track my progress towards meeting and exceeding them. We often incorporate catching specific training in our strength workouts, that include receiving tennis balls off a bosu ball or single leg drives to help with more explosive blocking reactions. In addition to weight training, we make sure to dedicate a day every week to speed and agility too.
A quick snapshot of some of my off season training this fall.
